The Prairie Event

Sun May 14, 2017, 11:06 AM

People were anxiously shuffling around, adjusting their gear, and their Kukuri were catching their stress. It had been two weeks since Death had showed Herself, and it was nearing the time of Her prophesied return. Even when wild Kukuri were noticed to slowly be gathering from the forest, they didn't dare do anything about it. Neither side would bother the other on a day such as this.

Sure enough, as if rewarding their patience, a huge shadow glided over them and the massive aerial floated gently down before them. Though Her feet did not touch the ground, it seemed as if She did not need to use Her wings to stay afloat either. Her very presence was tranquilizing and the uneasiness was gone from the crowd; the fog and doubt in their minds cleared.

Prairie lore 1 by momma-kuku

She let her gaze wander over the crowd and, without saying a word, beat her wings once to raise Herself up. She did not need to question whether anyone was ready - the anticipation and readiness of those that had gathered was palpable. People urged their Kukuri to move and, after a while, the wild ones followed as well, keeping a safe distance all the while. She flew almost unnaturally slow and gentle, slow enough that even those with heavy equipment had no trouble following.

Prairie lore 2 by momma-kuku

After half a day's travel, She stopped in front of a sheer mountainside. An agitated murmuring hummed through the crow - everyone could have sworn that no mountain had existed here. This place was only known as a huge meadow, similar to the meadows that now surrounded the mountain. The walls of this mountain were sheer and impassible; even experienced mountain climbers would have no luck here.

Paying no mind to the confusion below Her, Death allowed herself float down until the tips of Her feet barely brushed the grass, making the foremost Kukuri shift back to give Her space. A glowing ethereal circle appeared behind Her, lighting Her eerily from behind. Sharply, She lifted one of Her massive wings and, with one strong motion, brushed it against the mountain wall. As if listening to Her silent command, a huge chunk of the wall crumbled before her.

Prairie lore 3 by momma-kuku

As the dust kicked up by the sudden crumbling rock dispersed, there was a hint of movement. Just before it disappeared away over the uneven, treacherous ground, the crowd was greeted with the sight of a massive figure. Never before had anyone seen another Kukuri with feathers, Death herself being an exception. The Prairie was huge and thickly muscled but, despite this, still seemed somehow thinner than a creature of its bulk should be. It disappeared over the crest of the crumbled segment of mountain before any of the gathered could do anything.

Upon climbing up to get a view of the valley beyond the mountains, the assembled were greeted with the sight of a vast and sprawling grassland. It should have been beautiful, but something about it seemed... barren. Though there was a singular wide river flowing through the center of the valley, there were gorges and gulches that, though dry now, indicated that water was slowly drying up. Trees and shrubs were nearly nonexistent with most of the meager plant life surviving in the crags of the impassible mountain cliffs. In the distance, there is another hint of movement. It appeared to be a large pack of Prairies at what must have been a nesting ground, but it was too distant to be sure.

Prairie lore 4 by momma-kuku

"I do not control the living," Death said, drawing attention back to Herself as She descended once more, "try as I may, they will not listen to me. This is their territory and they will not leave at my command, nor yours. In the past, you have shown great companionship and strength among yourselves. This is what I now ask you to show to them in return.

Then, She was gone, as if you had only blinked as She disappeared. It was as if waking from a dream. All that was left of Death was the settling dust from the collapsed wall, the Prairies in the distance, and one mission in mind.

CAPTURING A PRAIRIE

You start your attempt to capture by choosing a quest. There are three quest lines determined by the three types of skill points: Attack quests, Defense quests, and Speed quests. Once you've completed your starting quest, you may choose your next quest to be either Attack, Defense, or Speed. There are three total quests required to complete each set; at the end of the three quests, a roll will be made to determine whether a Prairie was captured.

A max of THREE Kukuri may be actively participating in an image at a time. You may not use starters, but you are free to lend Kukuris. The rewards are given to the artist, not the owner of the Kukuri.

If you collaborate, the one who posts the entry gets the rewards. Likewise, the person who posted the first quest must be the one who posts the rest too, to keep everything clear and simple for both parties involved.

Here are your Starting Quests determined the start of your quest line:

Forceful (ATTACK) Quest

Area: Entrance to the valley / Mountain sides
These quests set the tone that you are acting hostile towards the Prairies and take place on the portion of mountain that Death collapsed to allow Kukuri entrance into the valley.
You’ve decided that you want to take the feathered Kukuri head on; your best bet of getting them out of their hidden valley is to pick off and forcefully capture any loners that may be patrolling and defending the entrance of the valley. That will mean traversing over rough, rocky terrain and braving steep cliffs along the way.
Draw or write about your Kukuri’s attempt to capture a Prairie Kukuri with whatever tools you have on hand, or with your bare hands if you’re feeling particularly brave, all while staying safe on unsteady ground.

Diplomatic (DEFENSE) Quest

Area: Riverside
These quests set the tone that you want to be friendly and work with the Prairies and take place by the river in the valley where Prairies get their fresh water.
It took you awhile to get through the collapsed mountain pass, but you’ve now found yourself inside the hidden valley. Immediately, you make for the nearest source of water, a strong river fed by the mountain, to set up a base of operations and build a pen to house any of the feathered Kukuri you find, knowing that the Prairies will eventually have to come to freshwater to drink.
Draw or write about your Kukuri’s first Prairie encounter (you’re attempting to be diplomatic, but does the Prairie reciprocate or get defensive about the unfamiliar Kukuri in its territory?).

Thieving (SPEED) Quest

Area: Valley
These quests set the tone that you are trying to steal an egg from the Prairies, so they will react appropriately, and takes place in the Prairie's nesting ground and across the plains.
The feathered Kukuri are on edge with all the new unfeathered Kukuri mucking about in their territory. The Prairies have intensified the security of their patrols, both along the border and at the heart of the open valley where they made their nests. With no natural predators in the valley, there was no need to hide the eggs so there’s no natural defense. However, that means there’s also very few places to hide. Still, sneaking in and snatching an egg is way more your speed than trying to take these massive creatures on in a fight.
Draw or write about your Kukuri’s attempt to snatch an egg from a Prairie nest.

Entry requirements:

Requirements for art:
° Kukuri(s) must be shown as full body.
° A starter prairie must be at least 50% visible.
° Colors, shading, and background are required.
° Background must represent the specific area of the quest

Literature requirements:
° 700 words
°+200 words per participating Kukuri

At the end of three quest parts, the Skillpoints of each of the participating Kukuri that match quests type chosen totaled. So for example, if your Kukuri's skillpoints were +1atk, +2def, and +3spd, and you did Attack > Attack > Def Questline, the total bonus would be 4 for that Kukuri's contribution. After the points are totaled, there will be a roll to determine whether a Prairie was captured.

Each captured prairie is added to a pot, and they will be raffled out at the end of the event.

By doing quests, you earn raffle tickets: You get 1 ticket/entry, and 3 tickets for the final entry in a Questline. This means that by finishing a Questline, you get total of 5 tickets.

You can earn maximum of 10 tickets in the event,

but you can keep doing quests and trying to catch a Prairie and continue getting event FP if you so desire.

Tickets cannot be traded.

Every Kukuri portrayed in the Prairie event entry gets +2FP event bonus

Your Kukuri will also be awarded medals for taking part in the event!

THE EVENT ENDS AT 30.6.2017 AT 6PM UTC

What sort of medals will our kukuris earn for participating?
Can a kukuri earn a medal by being in the event picture but not as one of the three having its stats counted up?
Will participating more than once award them higher tiers of medals in each of the categories (speed, attack, defense)?
And if so, I'd really love to know about how many times a kukuri must participate in event pictures to earn the max tier of medal QuQ

Might be a dumb question, but if I start a new set do I put the last quest from my first set in the "Last Quest" area? Or just put it's my starting quest again?

"You may not use starters, but you are free to lend Kukuris. The rewards are given to the artist, not the owner of the Kukuri. "
Does this mean that for the event we are allowed to lend out kukuri without commenting on the leasing thread?  Or are there differences between lending and leasing in scenarios like this?

Can we include more than three Kukus in a picture, just for FP purposes? So that three of them get their SP counted and the fourth still gets the FP bonus? ^^

I just want to make sure I am doing things correctly:
I planned out to have my first questline involving both and Speed and Attack (probably two attack and one speed quest)
I wanted to have my Kukus and their handler tackling three different starters in three different situations as they try to catch a Kuku, but I am not certain at this point, because it seems that the questline has to have situations that are related to each other.
For example: Speed: Tries to steal egg>Attack: has to wrestle down Kuku that the egg was stolen from> Defense: tries to talk it out with Kukus as the loaf shows up

Meanwhile I wanted to draw how they try to catch Kukuris on three seperate occassions.
For example: Attack: Wrestling down one prairie > Speed: Tries to steal egg from another prairie >Attack: Tries different approach of attack on third prairie
Sort of like them attempting their best to at least catch SOMETHING by going to all sorts of places in the valley.

I just want to be certain I am doing things right, before drawing more! Sorry for the long comment and I hope it's understandable what I am trying to say.

I may be missing it, but do the images needs to be shaded? Just wondering because I drew an image and painted it with watercolour (so it's traditional) and I wanna know if I have to add shading with a marker or coloured pencil at all.

not an admin but i checked the journal for you, i hope you dont mind! it looks like shading is required--

Requirements for art:
° Kukuri(s) must be shown as full body.
° A starter prairie must be at least 50% visible.
° Colors, shading, and background are required.
° Background must represent the specific area of the quest

If we're planning on doing multiple questlines, can we start another before the other is finished, or do we have to wait until the first questline is finished?

Not sure if this has been answered yet, but if doing more than three quests, does the chain of events keep going or do they stop at three and then allow someone to use other kukuris for something else?

Not an admin, but I'm having trouble understanding your question. To answer how I think you said, read the bolded lines first. If those don't answer it, then read the full thing.

There are three different quest categories.
Speed, Strangth, and Defense.
Once you chose one of these, you must go on a three step quest line. You don't have to do the three step quest all the same categories. You can switch it up.
As an example: you don't have to do step 1 attack, step 2 attack, step 3 attack. You can switch it up if you want.
However, the first quest that you choose will set the tone, at least to my understanding.

Now, each time you complete 1 of the three parts for the quest, you get a ticket. Once you complete the quest as a whole you get three tickets, even if you failed to capture a prairie. You can get a max of 10 tickets. This means two full quest lines, so six images. The first three for the first quest will give you five tickets in total, and the three for the last quest will give you five tickets in total.

Now... even if you get 10 tickets, you can still participate like normal, but you won't gain any more tickets. You can start with the same Kukuri as before, you can start with new Kukuri, anything you want, as long as it falls under the rules. You can create new quests lines, new stories, you can continue off old stories, etc...

I REALLY hope that answered the question XD

Not an admin but this is what I've learned so far c:
The odds of actually winning a prairie at the end of the event is completely random I believe. It'll be RNG'd from all the tickets people collect throughout the event.
Capturing a kukuri in the quest line is based on the stats of the prairie participating though. The higher the stat [corresponding to the current quest its in] then the higher the chance to add a prairie to the pot.

A quest is 3 parts long, you get a ticket each for the first 2 parts and the last part gives 3 bringing the total to 5 tickets from 1 finished quest.  You can do as many quests as you want but only earn a total of 10 tickets.
