We've all had it happen - either we bought a Kuku, our computer exploded or we just forgot to save, we've lost our import PSD and now we need it back for a reason or another. We could make a new import, but it might not be approved for not being close enough, or we really liked the old one. Are we completely lost now?

The answer is no, because I'm going to teach you how to make an import PSD out of a PNG.
On my off hours I can also make a man out of you.

STEP 1.

This is what I shall be working with - a single PNG of Miasma. This trick will work on any program that allows you to clip layers, but as I only know SAI and Photoshop, I will be teaching those.

Let's get started!

STEP 2.

Open the import PSD provided by the group. You do not need to make any preparations for it.

STEP 3.

Paste the PNG on top of the correct body's coloring layer, and under the lineart layer. The way the folders are aligned the image should clip automatically, but for the sake of this tutorial I am going to assume that it didn't.

If yours clipped and you know what's going on, you can jump to step 5.

STEP 4.

CLIP IT! In Paint Tool Sai there's a simple tick to make the layers clip, in Photoshop you need to press ALT inbetween the layers.

As the import was updated in one point, the images don't align perfectly. But lots better than starting from the scratch, right?

STEP 5.

Clean those unaligned parts. Do not worry about ears or horns yet.

Since the original PNG provides them, you can delete the "teeth" and "extra" layers!

STEP 7.

Now we repeat the process for ears and horns! I deleted the extra layers to show you all the clipped layers, but basically the process works largely same as the clipping the body.

STEP 8.

That's it! You have an import with the background separated! Merge those clipped layers to the color layers (ctrl + e does the trick in most programs), and go get a beverage of your choice to celebrate! You never have to fear losing an import PSD again!
